Butterscotch Haystacks

Happy winter treats. Yup, that's what these little scraggly bundles of salty sweetness are. Normally I would go into the gooey mushy emotional stuff like how these remind me of childhood and happy times in the kitchen but I figured you already know that's why I'm sharing this recipe. This is an easy one for the kids to help with because there is ingredient dumping, stirring and plopping involved. It just feels warm and fuzzy for the whole family. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 (11-ounce) package NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Butterscotch Flavored Morsels

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter

  • 1 (12 ounce) package chow mein noodles

  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows

  • 1 cup chopped peanuts

Supplies

Baking sheet lined with wax paper

Microwave safe bowl- large

Spoon or cookie scoop

Directions

Microwave morsels in large, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on 70% power for 1 minute then stir. The morsels may not be completely melted after the first minute. If necessary, microwave at 15-second intervals, stirring until morsels are melted. Immediately stir in peanut butter and blend well. Add chow mein noodles, chopped peanuts and marshmallows. Stir until all ingredients are coated. Drop by rounded tablespoon or cookie scoop onto wax paper lined baking sheets. Refrigerate at least 2 hours until the haystacks are fully set.

These can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of weeks and are best kept in the fridge. If your house is warm, they will soften a little if left at room temperature. They are delicious when they are gooey, but extremely messy. We like to pack them up in little treat boxes and pass them out as little gifts. We hope you enjoy this recipe!
